585 î.Hr.: În timp ce Aliattes al II-lea se luptă cu Cyaxares în Bătălia de la Halys, are loc o eclipsă solară, prezisă cu precizie de filosoful grec Thales din Milet. Potrivit lui Herodot, apariția eclipsei a fost interpretată ca un semn, lupta s-a oprit imediat și a fost încheiat un armistițiu.
